Behind a 4.9% money market headline
A percentage headline is a starting point, not a conclusion. The same 4.9% label can describe different structures depending on the source.
First, identify the rate type. APY-style language typically assumes compounding over a year, while other wording may describe a simple rate, a sample scenario, or a promotional display.
Second, look for conditions. Minimum balances, account tiers, new-customer windows, and transaction limits can make the headline less universal than it appears.
Third, separate education from offer. A learning page should explain the concept and encourage verification. It should not pressure visitors to deposit money immediately.
